VAT (Value Added Tax) is a consumption tax charged on most goods and services in Zimbabwe. The standard rate is 15.5%, administered by ZIMRA (Zimbabwe Revenue Authority). Businesses registered for VAT must charge it on their sales and can claim back VAT paid on their purchases.
To add 15.5% VAT to an amount, multiply it by 1.155:
Amount × 1.155 = Amount including VAT
Example: $1,000 × 1.155 = $1,155.00 (VAT = $155.00)
To remove 15.5% VAT from a VAT-inclusive amount, divide by 1.155:
Amount ÷ 1.155 = Amount excluding VAT
Example: $1,155 ÷ 1.155 = $1,000.00 (VAT was $155.00)
